Two new exhibits opened Friday, Nov. 26 at the New York Mills Regional Cultural Center.
In the main gallery is the exhibit "Happenchance," featuring the artwork of Twin Cities based artists Laura Andrews, Suzanne Murphy, Heather Humbert (Price) and Jennifer Totoritis-Searl. These four artists from across the Midwest first crossed paths studying art alongside each other at Lawrence University in Appleton, Wis. Post graduation the artists scattered across Taiwan, Minneapolis, Portland and Chicago only to find themselves together again in the Twin Cities a decade later.
Although the artists studied alongside each other learning the same techniques and studying with the same instructors, it is family, experience, identity and environment that has changed their work and brought them to the visual differences and idiosyncrasies you see today.
The show will run through Friday, December 31, with an Artists Reception featuring the artists on Saturday, Dec. 11, from 2 to 4 p.m. Everyone is cordially invited to talk with the artists at the reception.
The second story gallery will feature the artwork of Minneapolis based artist Brian Jorgenson. Jorgenson's show is entitled "Paper Plains." His work deals with taking a simple and accessible medium, paper, and pushing past the limitations of what might be considered possible.
