Sunday was Family Day at the Detroit Lakes Water Carnival, with more than a dozen games and activities geared to kids.

A family picnic kicked things off at 11:30 a.m. at the City Park, leading into a sand treasure dig at the beach, a magician show at the Pavilion, face painting, a ship building contest, pup plunge, trolley rides, turtle and frog races, a hula hoop competition, live music and more.

Old-fashioned kids games offered fun for little ones later in the afternoon, challenging kids as young as 3 to sack races, a water balloon toss, a three-legged race, and an egg and spoon race.
