First Lutheran Church in Detroit Lakes has announced Joe Skogmo as the church’s new Lead Pastor. "Pastor Joe" will be responsible for leading the spiritual life of the church in the Detroit Lakes community.

Skogmo is a 2005 graduate of Detroit Lakes High School and is the son of Jeff and Marlys Skogmo, who still reside in Detroit Lakes. His home church was Augustana Lutheran.

Following high school, Skogmo attended Augsburg University, graduating with a double major in political science and religious studies. He received his Master of Divinity from Luther Seminary.

Skogmo and his wife, Margaret, have three children. Margaret served as the director and head teacher of Discovery Days Preschool in Lowry, Minn., where Skogmo served as a solo pastor at St Paul’s Lutheran Church for the past seven years.

Skogmo has a passion for ministry. It is important to him to encourage a sense of belonging to all members -- of all ages -- through worship, fellowship and a welcoming, hospitable community of believers.
