FARGO - An explosion at a south Fargo twin home early this morning sent the 13 people inside to area hospitals. Two were taken to Twin Cities hospitals for burns.
The home, near the corner of 23rd Avenue and 15th Street South, was leveled in the 12:30 a.m. explosion.
Authorities are uncertain what caused the explosion, but lightning is one theory, said Fargo Fire Captain Randy Weiss. Witnesses said they saw lightning strike the house, he said. Members of the family will be questioned to see if they know what caused the blast.
Crews from Xcel Energy have been on site since early morning, said spokeswoman Bonnie Lund. They shut off the gas to the home and are participating in the investigation, she said.
Neighbors who stopped by the nearby Laundromat Tuesday morning said they felt the explosion from three blocks away, said Ann Toso, who manages Fargo's Finest Coin Laundry.

Candace Quick, who lives in an apartment building east of the explosion, said the noise jolted her out of her recliner.
"It was just one humongous boom," Quick said.
Debris was found about 50 feet in each direction of the house.
