ST. PAUL -- The are 29 potential makers of medical marijuana vieing for the two state-approved facilities allowed by Minnesota law.
The Minnesota Department of Health announced Friday that it received 29 letters of intent to apply for the state medical cannabis program.
The Health Department requested letters of intent by Sept. 19 with full applications due by Oct. 3.
The Health Department intends two select two applicants to become the state’s official medical cannabis manufacturers by Dec. 1. These manufacturers will be responsible for growing the medical cannabis, processing it into pill or liquid form, and distributing the medicide through eight dispensaries -- four per manufacturer -- to be set up around Minnesota.
Submitting a letter of intent does not obligate a party to apply.
