Dale Oswald. 86, died Saturday, Dec. 20, in Emmanuel Nursing Home, Detroit Lakes.
Dale was born the son of Amos and Anna (Schnieder) Oswald on Oct. 7, 1922, in Howells, Neb. He lived with his family in Nebraska and married Lois Hoffman on Aug. 15, 1945. They moved to the Frazee area in 1947. Dale farmed, raised cattle and sheep, and in 1954, started Dale's Sales Barn in Detroit Lakes. His family was all involved in the operation of the sales barn while he also auctioneered, held farm sales and bought and sold livestock in a large area of northern Minnesota. Dale continued to buy, sell and haul cattle until he entered the Lamplighter Manor of Detroit lakes in 2006. After the passing of his first wife (Lois), he married Gloria Vogt in 1970. Gloria passed away June 15, 2000. Dale's pleasures in life were family gatherings, hunting and traveling. He took his sons out west hunting and took many trips with the family to Nebraska, Colorado and to Yellowstone National Park. His spiritual beliefs and church life were very important to him.
Surviving Dale are three daughters, Shirley (Stanley) Birky of Detroit Lakes, Judy (Bruce) Palm, of Rochert, Kathy (Jack) Dretsch of Frazee; nine sons, Dale Dennis (Connie) of Detroit Lakes, Jerry (Marlys), Frazee, Gordon of Osage, Harley (Marie), Kerkhoven, Minn., Larry (Shelly) of Wolf Lake, Tom of Detroit Lakes, Tim of Detroit Lakes, Chris of Frazee, and Cory of Frazee; 32 grandchildren, 35 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great grandson; one sister, Grace Erb of Park Rapids, and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Lois, second wife, Gloria, and son, Patrick.
The visitation is scheduled for Sunday, Dec. 28, from 5-7 p.m., with a prayer service at 7 in Furey Funeral Home in Frazee.
Funeral services will be held Monday, Dec. 29, at 11 a.m. in the Christian Fellowship Church in Detroit Lakes, with a visitation one hour prior to the service.
