A Backus woman has died and a Park Rapids man was airlifted unre-sponsive to a Fargo hospital Thursday night following an alcohol-related head-on crash on Highway 34 east of Park Rapids.
Patricia Ann Borman, 52, of Backus, was the driver of an eastbound Ford Windstar that was struck head-on by a westbound Alero driven by 22-year-old Dean James Roehler of Park Rapids.
Borman died at the scene. Roehler was airlifted to Essentia Hospital, where he was listed as breathing but unrespon-sive as the Enterprise went to press Friday.
Two other occupants of the Windstar, 24-year-old Alicia Marie Borman and her 4-month-old baby, were taken by ground ambulance to St. Joseph's Area Health Services for observation. Neither were injured seriously.
The State Patrol report indicates Roehler was under the influence of alcohol when he swerved over the centerline of the two-land highway.
The accident occurred just after 5:30 p.m. It remains under investigation.
Authorities from several agencies responded and shut the highway down for an hour.
