Explore the World of Birds: In conjunction with its Summer Reading Program, the Detroit Lakes Public Library will host a special presentation, "Explore the World of Birds," starting at 2 p.m in the library's main meeting room. Staff from the Tamarac Wildlife Refuge will help attendees learn more about how to to identify local birds by sight and sound; get tips for becoming a backyard bird watcher; and hear the story of a special bird that's disappearing in Minnesota, the golden-winged warbler. Wildlife Movie Screening: Come to the Visitor Center at Tamarac National Wildlife Refuge for a free 2 p.m. screening of the movie, "Charlie and the Curious Otters." Charlie James has filmed otters for the last 25 years. They are playful, adaptable, and champion swimmers. Through the eyes of 3 orphaned otters, a set of groundbreaking experiments and some incredible wild encounters, Charlie reveals their survival secrets. Moorhead High School Alumni Gathering: There will be a gathering of all old Moorhead High School alumni and their spouses at 11:30 a.m. in the Detroit Lakes Holiday Inn. Nature Walk & Art Event: A nature walk and art event is planned at the Detroit Lakes Public Library, 1000 Washington Ave., as part of the library's exploration-themed Summer Library Experience program, starting at 2 p.m. Children will take a nature walk to collect sticks, leaves and more, and will use their collections to create a nature art project. Hidden Talent Show: The 15th Annual Wayne Nelson Memorial Hidden Talent Show will be held at the Cormorant Community Center at 7 p.m. For the past 14 years, the Community Center has hosted a packed house, enjoying an evening of entertainment of every kind. Tuesdays in the Park: Every Tuesday from June through August, Habitat for Humanity will serve hamburgers, hot dogs, brats, beans, potato salad and beverages in the Detroit Lakes City Park from 6 to 7 p.m. Following the meal, live music begins at 7 p.m. and lasts for approximately an hour, though some performers do continue to play a little later into the evening. Bring a lawn chair or a blanket, as bench seating is limited. In case of inclement weather, both the picnic and the concert will be moved inside the Pavilion.
Wild Wednesdays: Explore the world of nature with your child during this hour long adventure geared for 3-7 year olds. Detroit Lakes Area Pickleball: The outdoor pickleball courts at Peoples Park in Detroit Lakes are now open for the season. Everyone is welcome to use one of the five outdoor courts, which are located just behind Zorbaz. They will be open to the public 24 hours a day, but scheduled play will take place from 8:30 to 11:30 a.m. every Monday through Saturday, as well as on Monday and Thursday evenings starting at 7 p.m. All skill levels welcome.
