Woman sentenced after being caught in stolen car

Stephanie Ann Longfield, 29, of rural Mahnomen, has been sentenced in Becker County District Court for felony receiving stolen property.

According to court records, on Nov. 18, a woman reported to White Earth tribal police that her red 2002 Chevy TrailBlazer had been stolen.

Two days later, at 4:03 a.m., a Becker County deputy saw a vehicle coming towards him with its high beams on. He turned to follow it and saw it was a TrailBlazer with license plates that matched the stolen vehicle. He pulled it over and Longfield was the driver. She said she had been stranded in Moorhead and a man she knew said she could drive the TrailBlazer home.

On Aug. 13, District Judge Jay Carlson stayed imposition of sentencing and ordered Longfield to serve 30 days in jail, with credit for 22 days served. No additional jail time must be served. She was fined $1,000 plus $1,165 in court fees. She must successfully complete chemical dependency treatment, and was placed on supervised probation for five years.
