Ryan Jordan Sather, 27, of rural Detroit Lakes has been charged in Becker County District Court with felony fleeing a peace officer in a motor vehicle.
According to court records, on Nov. 1 law enforcement was dispatched to do a welfare check on Sather, who was heading to Walmart. A police officer stopped his car as he was leaving the Walmart parking lot. The officer got out and spoke to him through his vehicle window, but he only glared at the officer when asked if he wanted to talk.
When the officer told him he was being detained, Sather allegedly sped away, driving at a high rate of speed on the frontage road. A deputy used his squad car to force him to a stop and arrested him. Sather was apologetic for driving away and said he didn't want to go to jail.
On Nov. 6, a summons was issued in Becker County District Court ordering Halverson to appear in court Dec. 3.
