A BNSF train was briefly on fire Wednesday afternoon causing the train to stop and block the three crossings in Wadena.
Wadena Police officers and Wadena County Sheriff's officers were on scene directing traffic away from the crossings as the fire went out.
A witness of the fire said the first train engine could be seen with fire flaring from the top of the engine. It was shut down and a second engine was started without incident, according to Wadena Police Chief Naomi Plautz. She said an oil line broke and the oil caught fire. The train was able to continue on its way east with the second engine and traffic was again able to continue after 15-20 minutes.
The Wadena Fire Department also responded to the scene near Buckwheat Growers, but did not need to put out the fire as it quickly went out.
Plautz said no one was injured in the blaze.
