Noah Mercil was honored as McNair Scholar of the Year at the University of Wisconsin-Superior's TRiO Day celebrations on April 26.

Mercil, a Ronald S. McNair Post-baccalaureate Achievement Program Scholar, was recognized for the quality of his research and ambitious steps toward a graduate education.

Under the supervision of Eugene Koshinski at the University of Minnesota Duluth, Mercil conducted original research on the potential of integrating Afro-Peruvian Jazz into American musical education, which was published in UW-Superior's McNair Scholars Journal.

In February, Mercil attended auditions for admission to music programs at University of Colorado-Greeley and University of Washington-Seattle.
