DETROIT LAKES, Minn. — Two young children were injured Saturday morning, Aug. 17, in a two-vehicle crash in Becker County.
Taya Lynn Engel, 3, and Tegan Thomas Engel, 5, were taken to Essentia Health St. Mary’s Hospital in Detroit Lakes for non-life-threatening injuries suffered in the crash 4 miles south of the city, according to a media report from the Minnesota State Patrol. The two children, whose address was unknown as of 3 p.m. Saturday, were in 40-year-old Casey John Moltzan’s 2007 Honda Accord.
Moltzan, who is from Vergas, Minn., was driving south on U.S. Highway 59 shortly after 10 a.m. Saturday when he rear-ended a 2014 Ford F-150XLT driven by Steven David Dostal, 62, of Roseau, according to state troopers. Dostal had stopped to turn left, the report said.
Dostal and Moltzan were not injured. It’s unknown if Tegan was wearing a seat belt, but everyone else involved in the crash was. The airbag deployed in the Honda but not in the Ford.
The crash occurred on dry pavement at milepost 259 in Lake View Township. The Becker County Sheriff's Office and St. Mary's Ambulance Service assisted at the scene.
