A runaway teenager from the Audubon-Detroit Lakes area who has been missing for over a week has returned home, according to Becker County Chief Deputy Shane Richard.

Dominic Elhard, 17, was signed as a runaway by his family from his rural Audubon residence early Thursday morning, Jan. 2.

It was later determined he likely left his residence Wednesday night, Jan. 1, as he was seen briefly at a friend's residence late Wednesday night, Jan. 1, in Detroit Lakes.

“He returned home voluntarily,” Richard said Friday. “It’s good he’s back -- it’s quite a relief to hear he returned home safe -- when someone’s gone that long you began to worry about their health and well-being.”

The teen left without a vehicle or a working cellphone, and it’s unclear where he’s been. The Sheriff’s Office will interview him for the details. His mother alerted authorities that he had come home, Richard said.
