An elderly man died Thursday when his home southwest of Thief River Falls burned to the ground.
According to a spokeswoman for the Pennington County Sheriff's Office, the body of John Clover Meyer, 84, was found in his rural home west of St. Hilaire, Minn., after the fire was extinguished.
The fire call came in at 9:46 p.m. Thursday, the spokeswoman said.
The St. Hilaire fire department was on the scene by 10 p.m., but the house already was down, the fire chief told reporters.
No cause of the fire has been named and the investigation by the Minnesota state fire marshal's office continues.
