Academic achievements of area residents celebrated

Kristen Frank, a third grade teacher at Lake Park-Audubon Elementary School in Audubon, has been named as a finalist for 2021 Minnesota Teacher of the Year by Education Minnesota.

The 57th Minnesota Teacher of the Year will be chosen from a field of 75 candidates. These candidates have accepted their nominations and completed the required materials to become eligible for the honor. Eligible candidates include pre-kindergarten through 12th grade, Early Childhood Family Education and Adult Basic Education teachers, from public or private schools.

The Minnesota Teacher of the Year banquet is currently set for Sunday, May 2 at the St. Paul RiverCentre in St. Paul, Minn., though it may be postponed due to pandemic safety restrictions.

The University of Wisconsin-Madison has recognized Chloe Leno, Audubon, for her academic achievements by naming her to the dean's list for the fall semester of the 2020-2021 academic year.

Students who achieve at a high level academically are recognized by the dean at the close of each semester. To be eligible for the dean's list, students must complete a minimum of 12 graded degree credits in that semester.

Each university school or college sets its own GPA requirements for students to be eligible to receive the distinction. Students attending the College of Letters and Science at UW-Madison, where Leno is a sophomore, must earn a GPA of 3.6 or above to be named to the dean's list.

Several lakes area residents were among those students named to the dean's list for academic achievement at the University of Minnesota Duluth (UMD) during fall semester 2020.

Among those local students who achieved this honor were the following: Lori B. Glander, Frazee; Inessa C. Hukriede, Rochert; Isaac S. Kosel, Osage; Justine M. Lawrence, Detroit Lakes; Amber J. Lyman, Detroit Lakes; Dannah L. Nephew, Vergas; Kamryn E. Pachel, Audubon; and Kendra S. Kvebak, Detroit Lakes.

Students named to the dean's list at UMD have achieved a grade point average of 3.5 or higher for the semester.

Nicole LaBelle, Detroit Lakes, was among those students at St. Cloud Technical & Community College who were named to the dean's list for their academic achievements during fall semester 2020.

To earn this recognition, St. Cloud Tech students must maintain a grade point average between 3.5-3.99 for the semester (students who earn a perfect 4.0 GPA are named to the president's list).

North Dakota State University, Fargo, recently released its list of fall graduates.

The university awarded a total of 987 degrees to students. To graduate with honors, a student must earn a cumulative grade point average of 3.5 or higher (on a 4.0 scale).

The North Dakota State College of Science (NDSCS) has named 395 students to its fall semester 2020 President’s Honor List for academic achievement.

Local honorees include: Ethan Highness, Lake Park; Henry Jaster, Detroit Lakes; Cameron Lunde, Audubon; Christopher Mohr, Detroit Lakes; Joseph Peterson, Audubon; Brandon Schoon, Frazee; and Megan Sorum, Detroit Lakes.

The NDSCS President's Honor List recognizes students who have achieved grade point averages of 3.5 or higher, while taking at least 12 graded credits for the semester.

More than 800 University of North Dakota students graduated Friday, Dec. 18, in an online ceremony. The graduates included 10 law students, 208 graduate students, and 650 undergraduates.

Among those local residents graduating from UND at the end of fall semester 2020 were the following:
