UPDATE: Suspects named in pedestrian death near Pine Point

A Ponsford man had died following a hit and run on Pow Wow Highway, about a half mile east of Pine Point. The crash happened Thursday, Feb. 8 at around 7:30 p.m. According to the Becker County Sheriff's Department, after life saving efforts, Joshua Charles Jones, 21, who was a pedestrian, died at the scene. The vehicle was later located at a residence in Pine Point, and three people were taken into custody.

As of Friday afternoon, Bruce Allen Basswood, 47, of Ponsford, remains in custody at the Becker County Jail with formal charges pending.

Randall Lorne Basswood, 48, of Mahnomen, and Desiree Nate Freadrich, 35, of Portland, ND, had been released pending further investigation.

Agencies assisting the sheriff's office with the investigation include the White Earth Tribal Police Department, Minnesota State Patrol and the Detroit Lakes Police Department. Carsonville Fire and Rescue, North Memorial Ambulance and North Memorial Air Care responded to the scene. Alcohol is believed to be a factor in the incident.
