Two hurt in crash near Lake Park Saturday night

Two people were injured when their car rolled on Highway 10 in Lake Park Township Saturday night.

The passenger, Shawn Michael Hastings, 34, of Detroit Lakes, and the driver, Brittney Manchile French, 20, of Walcott, N.D., were both transported to Essentia St. Mary's Hospital in Detroit Lakes with non-life-threatening injuries, according to the State Patrol.

The crash occurred when a Chevrolet Cobalt was traveling eastbound Highway 10, and, with the driver distracted by items inside the vehicle, went off the roadway into the south ditch to avoid a collision. The Cobalt re-entered Highway 10 and rolled, coming to rest on its roof in the eastbound lanes.

The accident was reported at 11:38 p.m. on dry road conditions at Highway 10 and Second Street in Lake Park Township, Becker County. French was not wearing a seatbelt. Hastings was wearing a seatbelt. The airbag deployed in the passenger car. Alcohol was not a factor in the crash.
