Two people suffered minor injuries in a two-vehicle crash Tuesday, Dec. 10, on Washington Avenue.
Alexis Freeman, 31, of Lake Park and a passenger, Billie Jo Baker, 45, were injured when the 2011 Ford Focus that Freeman was driving collided with a 2007 Lincoln driven by Rebecca Grones, 56, of Detroit Lakes, who suffered no apparent injuries, according to the Detroit Lakes Police Department accident report.
The Ford was turning left onto Washington Avenue from Pleasant View Apartments when it was struck by the Lincoln, which was northbound on Washington Avenue, according to the report.
The collision left Freeman temporarily stuck behind the wheel of the Ford until EMS workers cut out the airbag, which had failed to deflate after inflating during the crash.
An ambulance was waiting to take the injured to Essentia St. Mary’s hospital, which was right down the block from the crash scene. That block of Washington Avenue was closed to through traffic until the crash scene was cleaned up.
Detroit Lakes police officers were assisted by St. Mary’s EMS and the Becker County Sheriff’s Office on the scene.
