The Air Force’s investigation into a shooting July 21 that killed Tech. Sgt. Matthew Hullman continues, and little information is available about the incident, said an investigator Monday.
Linda Card, head of public affairs for the Air Force’s Office of Special Investigations in Quantico, Va., said she has not gotten a report yet from investigators on the cause of death or other details about the shooting.
Such investigations sometimes can take more time because of the need to interview many people, Card said.
She had heard the same informal reports about the shooting as reported last week by the Herald: Hullman was seen in a street on base holding a firearm in some sort of confrontation with base police late in the evening of July 21.
But she had no official report yet “to validate” that account or to establish if Hullman’s fatal wound was self-inflicted or the result of a police action, Card said.

Tim Flack, a spokesman at the Grand Forks base, said all questions about the investigation are being directed to Card.
Hullman, 36, was a public health inspector on base and had been stationed at Grand Forks since 2009. He went to high school in San Antonio, Texas, and joined the Air Force in 1997, according to his Facebook account.
According to an obituary available online Monday from Kirsch Funeral Chapel in Iowa, a funeral service for Hullman will be held at 10:30 a.m., Saturday in the Kirsch chapel in Shenandoah, in the southwest corner of Iowa. A fellowship time will be held after the service at the Isaak Walton Club near Shenandoah. A memorial fund has been started in his name.
