Attention high school students! An Artist Mentorship Grant Writing Workshop is scheduled for Saturday, Nov. 20. Students in grades 9, 10 and 11 who are attending public, private or home schools and living in the LRAC region, are invited to apply for an arts study award worth over $500.

A number of students in the region will be selected to study their chosen art form with a professional artist, or attend a workshop or summer camp next summer. The goal of this program is to enhance the student's artistic creativity and skill, as well as personal growth.

Guidelines and applications are available at http://www.lracgrants.org .

The Grant Writing Workshop is from 10 a.m. to noon. The guest speaker will be a visual and literary artist, and student Dana Poore. Dana will share her experience in the Artist Mentor program with her peers who will be considered for the mentorship program next summer.

The grant deadline for the Artist Mentor program 2011 is Feb. 1. Awards follow on March 18, after applicants are reviewed by a jury consisting of arts educators and professional artists on Saturday, March 5.

Who is workshop guest speaker Dana Poore? Dana Poore, 16, loves writing. She's been writing her entire life. She's been writing songs, poetry and has written 11 novels. What Dana needed was to take it to the next level.

Dana was paired with a mentor last summer and not just "any" mentor. She mentored with a professional, an editor who helped Dana polish her writing and learn how to get published. Dana will share her experiences at the Grant Writing Workshop for the Artist Mentor Program on Saturday, No-v. 20.
