A Waubun woman was sentenced in Becker County District Court on an amended complaint Wednesday.

District Judge Thomas Schroeder ordered Angel VanWert serve 35 days in jail and pay $1,397.50 in fines on one count each of gross misdemeanor fourth-degree assault and misdemeanor fifth-degree assault.

VanWert was originally charged with felony and gross misdemeanor assault, stemming from a Dec. 10, 2004, incident at an Elbow Lake Village residence.

VanWert tried to stab a man with a knife, and then kicked a police officer who went to the scene in response to an emergency call.
