A 3-year-old Becker County boy died Wednesday of what authorities believe was homicidal violence.

Sterling Kyle Anderson, 23, of Duluth has been arrested, and although charges had not been filed as of Friday at noon, Becker County Attorney Gretchen Thilmony said she expects them to be filed in time for Anderson to make his first court appearance Monday.

According to a press release from the Becker County Sheriff's Office, the boy, Steven Warren, who lived at 36787 County Highway 34, suffered severe head trauma at a residence in Maple Grove Township shortly after noon Wednesday. He was taken by ambulance to Essentia St. Mary's Hospital in Detroit Lakes, then transferred to Sanford Hospital in Fargo, where he was pronounced dead.

The results of an autopsy, which came Thursday, showed the cause of Warren's death was homicidal violence, according to Becker County Sheriff Todd Glander.

The White Earth Police Department and Becker County Sheriff's Office are investigating the incident with assistance from the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension.

Glander said he could not comment on any relationship Anderson may have had with the boy, due to the ongoing investigation.
