DULUTH -- Bail was set at $10,000 for a man accused of stabbing a University of Minnesota Duluth football player last month.

Xavier Devon Davis, 23, was arraigned Monday in State District Court in Duluth on a felony charge of second-degree assault.

Davis is accused of stabbing UMD senior running back Austin Sikorski on Aug. 2. He was arrested without incident by Duluth police Friday after an arrest warrant was issued.

Police said several witnesses reported seeing Davis and Sikorski engage in a physical confrontation outside the Flame Nightclub in downtown Duluth. Davis then punched Sikorski in the face at least twice, according to a criminal complaint.

Sikorski fled from the scene and was pursued by Davis, according to witnesses. Davis was next seen on Superior Street running away from Sikorski, who suffered a stab wound to the abdomen.

Judge Theresa Neo set bail and scheduled Davis’ next appearance for Oct. 1. He did not yet have an attorney, according to court records
