Saturday night approximately 3,000 turkeys died in a fire at New Life Farms, near Frazee.

Paul Thon, Frazee assistant fire chief, said the call came in at 8:26 p.m. Saturday night that one of the New Life barns was on fire. According to Becker County reports, he said, a passing motorist reported the fire.

The barn is located at the farm along Old Highway 10, between Frazee and Perham.

New Life partner Wayne Mickelson said insurance inspectors have been to the totaled barn, but the estimated cost of damages hasn't yet been determined.

"We'll absolutely rebuild," he said. "Hopefully in three months."

He said the downed building will be removed by the end of this week.

Thon wouldn't comment on the cause of the fire.

"I wouldn't go there if I did know," he said.

Mickelson said he's sure the cause was electrical.

"It was a furnace or heating related fire," Mickelson said. "If we'll even ever know."

New Life Farms has 10 locations throughout the area.
