The weather service office in Grand Forks expects light snow to develop in the Devils Lake basin Saturday afternoon and spread east overnight into Sunday.

Snowfall totals for northwest Minnesota, including the Detroit Lakes

area, could range from 2 to 4 inches, with heavier amounts possible locally through the weekend, according to the weather service office in Grand Forks.

Forecasters say up to 6 inches of snow could accumulate in central and western North Dakota, making travel difficult. Several winter weather advisories are in effect from late Friday through Sunday.

Colder weather also is a part of the system, with low temperatures possibly dropping below zero in northern areas.
