Becker County murder victim identified

The man who died Friday in Becker County, the victim of an apparent homicide, has been identified in published reports as Chad Swedberg, 33, a long-time resident of the White Earth Lake-Ogema area.

The man who died Friday in Becker County, the victim of an apparent homicide, has been identified in published reports as Chad Swedberg, 33, a long-time resident of the White Earth Lake-Ogema area.

WCCO.com reported Saturday that Swedberg, a carpenter, was shot to death Friday morning while processing maple syrup.

Becker County authorities have ruled his death a homicide, according to WCCO.

Law enforcement officers from a number of agencies responded to the Little White Earth Lake area Friday to seal off roads and help search for the shooter.

The death was reported about 10 a.m. and officers from a number of agencies, including the State Patrol, were still in the area when a Detroit Lakes Newspapers photographer was there about 4 p.m.

White Earth Tribal Police and the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension are assisting in the Sheriff's Department's investigation.

The Becker County Sheriff's Department sent out a one-paragraph news release Friday and has declined comment beyond that.
