Edina Realty is offering its realtors a continuing education course that helps them gain a better understanding of the home building process, marketing, and sales of new construction.
The course, earning realtors the designation "New Homes Sales Specialist," was a two-day process. The first day focused on topics like trends, selling new construction, contracts, purchase agreements and working with buyers.
The second day focused on topics relating to marketing plans, budgets, commissions, financing, title and the home building process.
Sharry Schmid, vice president of Edina Realty's Builder's Resource Group, believes it is beneficial for agents to attend the training and gain the new designation.
"For those agents who want to focus on new construction sales, this course gives them the advantage of receiving training specific to new home sales," she said. "Selling new homes is different from selling existing homes. Builders know and are looking for agents who specialize in new construction."

Dave Branson, manager of the Fargo and Detroit Lakes office, encouraged agents to attend, and Keith Berger from the Fargo office and Gene Berger from the Detroit Lakes office both earned the new designation.
"This designation is an investment in their careers, which better adapts them to helping their clients achieve their goals."
