Bertha man leaves car in swamp after crash

A 29-year-old Bertha man was cited for careless driving after abandoning a vehicle in a swampy ditch one mile east of Hwy. 75, according to the Otter Tail County Sheriff's Office.

The 1995 Pontiac Grand Am was discovered around 5:40 p.m. Saturday in the north ditch of 240th Street, north of Wrightstown. The vehicle was damaged and the air bags were deployed, according to the report. The driver of the vehicle was not at the scene.

At around 7 p.m. that night, the driver was located. He said he had crashed his car around 2 a.m. the previous morning.

Alcohol use and driver inattention were factors in the accident, according to the sheriff's report.
