The humane society of the lakes will feature some of its adopted dogs at Tuxes & Tails on Friday, Nov. 19. Organizers of the event hope to make it an annual celebration and fundraiser to help the shelter with its operating costs.

There aren't many opportunities in Detroit Lakes where people can get all glammed up in tuxes and fancy gowns.

But on Friday, Nov. 19, the "Tuxes & Tails" event will not only give people the chance to dress up, it'll allow some dogs to attend wearing tuxedos, too.

Tuxes & Tails is a fundraiser for the Humane Society of the Lakes that's back by popular demand.

"A lot of folks were telling them (the Humane Society) that they missed the event," said organizer of the event Cyndi Anderson.

The event will be held at the Holiday Inn in Detroit Lakes with social hour starting at 6 p.m., followed by the program and dinner at 7 p.m.

The Humane Society of the Lakes is always full and constantly looking for funds to help continue its operations, Anderson said.

Some of the Humane Society adopted dogs will make special appearances at Tuxes & Tails this year, along with a few others.

The program will feature success stories of the Humane Society.

There will also be a live and silent auction to help with the fundraising.

"Certainly our intention is to raise money but our bigger intention is to celebrate and say thank you," Anderson said.

The dogs will not be in the room during dinner, they will be taken care of by volunteers who will tend to their needs in a separate area.

About 15 dogs are scheduled to appear and will escorted by a number of community members.

Event organizers have 250 tickets available and so far, nearly 200 have been sold.

The cost to attend Tuxes & Tails is $50 per person and includes dinner, coffee, dessert and a cash bar.

A number of local businesses have already contributed nearly $5,000 to the fundraiser by sponsoring the event.

But, Anderson emphasized, Tuxes & Tails is not just about the money, it's about appreciating all pets, especially man's best friend.
