Blood alcohol test results from the two people involved in the snowmobile crash that resulted in the death of off-duty Alexandria police officer, Patrick Callaghan, were released last Friday, February 19.
Blood from Callaghan and the other person involved in the crash, Mark Andrew Ruder, was taken for testing following the crash, which took place January 29 on the Central Lakes Trail east of Alexandria near Liberty Road.
The results indicated that the blood alcohol concentration for Callaghan was .04 and the level for Ruder was .06 - both under the .08 legal limit for operating a vehicle, which includes snowmobiles.
The Bureau of Criminal Apprehension released the results late Thursday to law enforcement officials, who in turn notified the families of Callaghan and Ruder, according to Chris Karpan, Douglas County attorney.
Karpan said he was given the completed investigative file from the Douglas County Sheriff's Office, including an accident reconstruction report done by the Minnesota State Patrol.

"I will take the weekend to review the file and determine whether there are any appropriate non-alcohol related criminal charges," said Karpan.
Karpan, who was contacted Monday afternoon, said he should have his decision later this week.
