Weather getting you down? Are you tired of seeing nothing but white landscapes, instead of green?
Then come to Zorbaz in Detroit Lakes on Saturday, April 14, for the second annual Bluegrass Greenfest.
Sponsored by Natural Innovations, the concert is bringing in some of the region's best bluegrass musicians, Hans Blix and the Weapons Inspectors, who cheekily bill themselves as "bluegrass, fiddle tunes and weapons specialists." Also on the bill is Frazee's own "guitar wizard," Tim Sparks, who will be bringing along special guest Willy Williams.
And if anyone is interested in jamming with these talented musicians, there will also be a jam session with Hans Blix & the Weapons Inspectors for part of their set.
"We just wanted something different," explained Erika Johnson, executive director of Natural Innovations. "Bluegrass music is not something you get to hear very often, especially in Detroit Lakes, so we thought this would be something fun to do."

The fun starts at 8 p.m. and continues until midnight. Cost is $5 at the door, or $10 if you would like to become a "friend" of Natural Innovations. Tickets and donations are tax deductible, as Natural Innovations is a non-profit organization (incorporated in 2004).
Proceeds from the Bluegrass Greenfest will go to support Natural Innovations' environmental education and stewardship programs.
"We hope to broaden awareness of (environmental) issues, what people are doing (to resolve these issues) and how anyone can get involved," Johnson said.
Some of the programs that Natural Innovations sponsors include a monthly speaker forum on various environmental issues; as well as removal of a persistent buckthorn infestation from the Pelican Rapids school forest (for which they received a grant).
In addition, NI is working with several school districts in the area with linking environmental resources in the community with classroom instruction, Johnson noted.
The goals of Natural Innovations are as follows:
- To increase environmental literacy and awareness in the area.
- To increase community involvement in environmental stewardship advocacy, education, and programs.
- To help schools to meet educational standards through environmental programming.
- To promote environmental ethics.
- To promote awareness of the cultural significance in the preservation of our community's natural resources.
- To collaborate and partner with others to deepen impact of environmental education and stewardship.
- To strengthen environmental programs and objectives from area organizations.
