The Boys & Girls Club of Detroit Lakes is excited to be participating in the 2nd Annual Give to the Max Day at GiveMN.org this Tuesday, Nov. 16.

Give to the Max Day was designed to support Minnesota nonprofits through online giving and was held for the first time in 2009. Over $14 million dollars was raised in just 24 hours last year thanks to over 38,000 donors. More than 3,000 Minnesota nonprofit organizations benefited from the event in 2009. GiveMN.org hopes to beat last year's achievements this year by involving both more nonprofits and more donors.

Last year's achievements are to date the most successful ever for a one-day online fundraising drive. The previous record for such an event was $3.8 million raised in Dallas.

"This online giving event coincides with the kickoff of the final stretch of our 2010 It Just Takes One annual fundraising drive," stated Sue Trnka, resource development director for the Detroit Lakes Boys & Girls Club. "We enjoyed such great success during the Bremer Give-to-the-Kids Challenge at GiveMN.org this fall, and we plan to continue to offer an online giving option to our donors. Many donors still prefer to contribute to their favorite charities by writing a check, but for many -- especially young, new donors -- online giving is the way to go."

New in 2010, GiveMN will offer several incentives to encourage nonprofit and donor participation in Give to the Max day, including:

  • A $20,000 and $10,000 prize grant will be awarded to the top two nonprofits in the Twin Cities and the top two nonprofits in Greater Minnesota that attract the largest number of individual donors on Give to the Max Day.
  • Throughout the event, an individual donor will be randomly chosen every hour to have an additional $1,000 given to the charity that received the donor's original donation.
  • Donors will have the opportunity to double their dollars for hundreds of featured nonprofits that have secured matching funds for Give to the Max Day.

Donors interested in participating should visit GiveMN.org.
