The Detroit Lakes boys' hockey team was the latest Section 8-1A squad to takes its swipe at the Thief River Falls Prowlers -- but much like its section counterparts, DL came up short.
The Lakers traveled to play the section-leading Prowlers, losing 4-1 and falling to 4-5-0 in Section 8-1A play, with a 17-6-0 record overall.
Even though the score implied a wider margin of loss, DL head coach Jason Vold felt some good things were brought out of the game.
"The one good thing is we know we can play with Thief River Falls," Vold said. "We had our opportunities to win the game, but in the end, (TRF) did outplay us."
The Lakers rebounded from a 1-0 first period deficit with a power play goal by Nick Grabow, on a pass from forward Jake Bergquist. The Prowlers struck back in the second to notch a 2-1 edge.

DL stayed neck-and-neck with the Prowlers up until four minutes left in regulation, when TRF poked its third goal in for the back-breaking 3-1 margin. The Prowlers added another goal later for the final score of 4-1.
With the loss, Vold is estimating a fourth through sixth playoff seed.
"It really doesn't matter anymore, the kids are still believing in themselves and we'll just prepare that much harder for the playoffs," Vold said.
DL will wrap up its regular season Thursday, Feb. 16, at home against Red Lake Falls (4-18-1). The seeding meeting for the playoffs was today (Wednesday).
The Lakers lost to Bemidji Tuesday night (results were not available at press time) by the score of 6-1, dropping DL to 17-7-0 overall.
