Candidate forum is Thursday

The Detroit Lakes Area League of Women Voters and the Detroit Lakes Regional Chamber of Commerce will co-host a Detroit Lakes City Council and Becker County Commissioner District 2 Candidate Forum on Thursday in the Detroit Lakes City Council Chambers.

Coffee and cookies will be served beginning at 6:30 p.m. These events are free and open to the public.

The forums kick-off at 7 p.m. with the candidates for four City Council seats.

The candidates are Ward 1: Dan Wenner (unopposed); Ward 2: Dave Aune and Rick Johnson; Ward 3: Jay Schurman and G.L. Tucker. The four candidates for the two at-large seats are Matt Boeke, Al Brevik, Barb Schiller and Madalynn Sukke.

This forum will be moderated by Becker County resident Terry Kalil.

At 8:15 p.m., Becker County Commission District 2 candidates Ben Grimsley and Mark Hagedorn will respond to voter questions.

District 2 includes Wards 2 and 3 in the City of Detroit Lakes.

Helen Foltz, an experienced League of Women Voters moderator, will lead this event.

A second evening of candidate forums will be held on Tuesday, Oct. 21, at the Becker County Courthouse for all Becker County candidates and the MN House Dist. 2B and 4B races.

Voters can submit questions in advance via e-mail sent to detroitlakeslwv@gmail.com or submit questions the nights of the forums.
