Becker County has moved one of its recycling sites from the former Boys and Girls Thrift Store at 605 Highway 10 east to the lot behind the Detroit Lakes Newspapers office and Napa Auto Parts on the north side of Detroit Lakes at 504 Davis Ave.
There are four of the big blue bins for cardboard, two for paper, three for mixed loads of plastic, metal and cartons and one bin for glass. It is one of a number of county recycling sites in Detroit Lakes and across Becker County. The new site offers plenty of room for traffic and parking.
Not sure about what can go in the bins? Here are some tips from the Becker County recycling website:
Metal: Clean aluminum, tin, steel cans (no need to remove labels) and small pieces of scrap metal.
Plastic: Nos. 1 through 7 product containers
(Yogurt and margarine tubs are OK, but no plastic wrap, plastic bags, or disposable diapers are allowed).Cartons: Milk, juice, tetra pack boxes.
Paper: Newspaper, office paper, phone books, magazines and paper-board (such as tissue, cereal and soda pop boxes).
Cardboard: Corrugated cardboard boxes (but no pizza boxes or freezer food boxes).
