According to court records, on Oct. 12, he was involved in a motor vehicle hit and run at the Cenex in Lake Park, injuring two people who were at the propane filling station there.

Man accused of working with victim to change her trial testimony
Two felony counts of violating a no-contact order have been dismissed against Kyle Wally Hilborn, 33, of Faribault, Minn. in Becker County District Court.

According to court records, From Sept. 10 to Sept. 12, 2019, Hilborn was on trial in Becker County District Court for felony third-degree assault and felony second-degree domestic assault. He had an active domestic abuse restraining order and an active harassment restraining order on file against him at the time, preventing contact with the victim.
On Sept. 11, he and the victim were seen in the same general area of each other at the Washington Square Mall in Detroit Lakes. During the second day of trial, the victim testified in a manner favorable to Hilborn, and inconsistent with her prior statement to police.
That made police suspect the two were in contact. Officers on stake-out duty saw her leave a Dodge Charger in the mall parking lot and get into a silver Dodge Ram pickup truck that pulled up next to the Charger. She spoke with the driver for about five minutes, then the Ram drove to the courthouse and the occupants spoke to Hilborn. Then the pickup truck took her back to the Charger and dropped her off.
Phone records showed contact between Hilborn and the victim, and she admitted that they had gotten back together, with their last contact being on Sept. 12. She wondered why it mattered, since he was found guilty in spite of her favorable testimony.
On April 7, both felony counts of violating a no-contact order were dismissed by the Becker County Attorney’s Office in the interests of justice, since Hilborn is serving a prison term until September of 2021.

Felony theft charge dropped against Frazee woman who took car
Crystal Ann Covey, 32, of Frazee, has had a felony theft charge against her dismissed in Becker County District Court.
According to court records, on July 2, 2018, the owner of a vehicle reported that Covey took it without permission and did not return it. A deputy contacted Covey by phone, and she said she was not going to bring the vehicle back, and that she would rather be arrested than return the vehicle. On being told that, the vehicle owner signed it as being stolen, and two days later, on July 4, a deputy acting on tip found the vehicle in a driveway in the Brandy Lake area. Covey was just getting out of it, and two witnesses said they saw her driving it.
On March 31, the felony charge was dismissed by the Becker County Attorney’s Office, because Covey has been charged instead with misdemeanor tampering with a motor vehicle, as part of a plea bargain in the same case.
