Wayne Allen Kohler, 46, of Detroit Lakes, has been sentenced in Becker County District Court for felony violating the state’s predatory offender registration law.
According to court records, on May 19, he was released from prison at St. Cloud and was required to register his address as a predatory offender. He listed an address at the Riverview Terrace mobile home park in Detroit Lakes, but an officer contacted a woman at that address on July 10 and was told Kohler hadn’t lived there for a year and wasn't allowed to be there, because he assaulted her the last time he was there in July 2019.
At the time he was charged, Kohler was in jail on an unrelated burglary charge.
On Sept. 17, Becker County District Judge Gretchen Thilmony sentenced Kohler to 31 months in prison at St. Cloud, and ordered him to pay a $50 fine and $140 in court fees.
Two felony burglary charges, two gross misdemeanor charges and two misdemeanor charges were all dropped in a plea agreement.

White Earth woman gets 56 months for selling heroin
Jayne Faye Bellanger, 27, of White Earth, has been sentenced in Becker County District Court for felony first-degree controlled substance crime.
According to court records, on Jan. 24, 2018, law enforcement officers executing a search warrant at her residence found 11.3 grams of heroin with packaging, digital scales, pay/owe ledgers, drug paraphernalia, drug packaging materials, and a large amount of cash sitting in plain view on the kitchen table.
A man and a child that looked to be about 1 year old were also at the residence.
On Sept. 22, Becker County District Judge Mike Fritz sentenced Bellanger to 56 months in prison at Shakopee, and ordered her to pay a $1,000 fine and $1,165 in court fees. She was granted credit for 113 days served in jail.
A gross misdemeanor charge of child endangerment was dropped in a plea agreement.
Ogema man sentenced for high-speed chase
Jerel Edward Bellanger, 42, of rural Ogema, has been sentenced in Becker County District Court for felony fleeing a peace officer in a motor vehicle.
According to court records, on March 12, a deputy patrolling westbound on County Road 34 saw Bellanger driving a black 2013 Silverado pickup truck eastbound. Bellanger was wanted on a warrant and his license was revoked.
The deputy tried to pull him over, but Bellanger fled south on County Road 21, driving on the centerline at speeds up to 85 mph. He made numerous turns and went through several stop signs. At Beaver Trail and Gull Road, he drove the pickup straight at the oncoming deputy, who swerved to avoid a collision. The pursuit continued until Bellanger pulled into a driveway on Beaver Trail and fled on foot into the woods. He was eventually caught in a neighbor's driveway by a Callaway police officer.

On Sept. 22, Becker County District Judge Mike Fritz sentenced Bellanger to 17 months in prison at St. Cloud, stayed four years. He was ordered to serve 194 days in jail, with credit for 194 days served. He was fined $700 plus $850 in court fees. He must get a chemical dependency evaluation and follow the recommendations, including aftercare, and was placed on supervised probation for four years.
A felony charge of second-degree assault and misdemeanor charges of fleeing a police officer on foot and driving after his license was revoked were dropped in a plea agreement.
Man sentenced for quarter-pound of marijuana
Vue Lao, 35, of Welch, Minn., has been sentenced in Becker County District Court for felony fifth-degree controlled substance crime.
According to court records, on March 21, 2019, a state trooper pulled him over on Highway 59 in rural Becker County for a possible seatbelt violation. A woman passenger, who owned the car, gave the trooper permission to search it. The trooper found a backpack in the trunk with four zipper-lock baggies, containing a total of 138 grams of marijuana, with packaging.
On Sept. 23, Becker County District Judge Gretchen Thilmony sentenced Lao to a year and a day in prison at St. Cloud, stayed five years. He was ordered to serve 154 days in jail, with credit for 154 days served. He was ordered to pay $1,090 in court fees. He must get a chemical dependency evaluation and follow the recommendations, including aftercare, and was placed on supervised probation for five years.
Man gets over 5 years after being caught with quarter-pound of meth
Daniel Nunez, 31, of St. Paul, has been sentenced in Becker County District Court for felony second-degree controlled substance crime.
According to court records, on April 25, 2019, a state trooper pulled over the car he was in for driving 73 mph in a 60 mph zone on Highway 59 near Sauer Lake. The vehicle sped up to 93 mph before stopping.
The trooper had Nunez get out of the vehicle, and found a baggie of meth where he had been sitting, then found two more large baggies of meth in his socks. The total weight was about a quarter-pound of meth, with packaging.

Nunez said he was getting paid $800 to drive the meth from Gary, Minn. to Fergus Falls.
On Sept. 23, Becker County District Judge Gretchen Thilmony sentenced Nunez to 67 months in prison at St. Cloud, and ordered him to pay a $50 fine and $215 in court fees.
