Casey James Holt, 26, of St. Cloud, has been sentenced in Becker County District Court on a gross misdemeanor charge of fourth-degree assault on a peace officer.

According to court records, on Jan. 10, a Detroit Lakes police officer learned Holt was working at Lakeside Tavern, and knew he was wanted on a warrant. The officer went to the back door to talk to Holt, who denied the warrant and backpedaled into the building, where he tried to slam a bathroom door shut on the officer.

The officer’s foot stopped the door from closing, and Holt then shoved the officer hard with both hands and a scuffle ensued. When it was over, the officer had a scraped shin, a cut and bleeding finger, and a badge and microphone ripped off his bullet proof vest.

Holt was searched, and another officer noticed that one of his pockets was out of his pants. That officer found a glass smoking pipe and a small baggie containing 4.1 grams of meth in a 5-gallon bucket near the sink.

A small baggie containing .93 grams of meth was later found in Holt's wallet, which had been left at the bar.
