Travis Garrett Job, 28, of rural Ulen has been charged in Becker County District Court with two counts of felony second-degree assault, felony criminal vehicle operation, and felony fourth-degree assault on a peace officer.
According to court records, on Oct. 12, a motor vehicle hit and run was reported at the Cenex in Lake Park.
A female employee and a male customer were at the propane filling station, getting a tank filled, when a man they did not know, later identified as Job, pulled up next to them in a red car and sat there.
The customer asked if he needed something, and Job said no. He backed the car away and waited a few minutes. Then there was the sound of screeching tires and the customer saw the red car heading for them. The car hit him and he landed on the hood. The car pushed the Cenex employee into the propane filling station, leaving multiple cuts on both her legs.
The car took off, but a deputy followed the tracks through a grassy area outside of the parking lot, where he found a wallet with Job’s driver’s license in the grass near the tire tracks.

A witness said the car had gone north across Highway 10 toward the Lake Park High School. Another sheriff’s officer found the red car, a 1995 Honda Civic, in a nearby swamp. It was registered to Job.
The officer found Job, who appeared to be under the influence, and admitted smoking meth a half-hour earlier. He resisted arrest and had to be placed in hobble restraints to stop him from kicking. He was taken to the Detroit Lakes emergency room, where the officer tried to calm him down and get him peacefully out of the car. But instead, Job lunged forward unexpectedly and head-butted the officer in the face, according to the criminal complaint.
On Oct. 14, District Judge Gretchen Thilmony set cash bail for Job at $2,000 or bond at $20,000, with standard conditions of release, or bond at $50,000 without conditions.
Bond set at $50K for Ogema man charged with felony assault
Christopher Lee Rogers, 45, of rural Ogema, has been charged in Becker County District Court with felony second-degree assault.
According to court records, on Oct. 17, officers were called to a rural Becker County home after Rogers hit a man in the face. The victim told officers he had been given a ride there by a friend to collect a debt from the property owner. He was hit in the face by Rogers before he could get out of the car. Rogers hit him in the face again, and the victim noticed a large blade in Rogers’ hand.
When the female driver told Rogers she was going to call her dad, Rogers told her to go ahead, adding “I’ll stab him, too,” according to the criminal complaint.
When officers located Rogers later, he denied he had been there or seen the victim all day. But since he is on probation, officers checked his GPS monitor, which showed multiple stops at the assault scene during the time of the assault.
On Oct. 20, District Judge Gretchen Thilmony set cash bail for Rogers at $5,000 or bond at $50,000, with standard conditions of release, or bond at $75,000 without conditions.

Waubun man accused of trying to stab woman
Pete Alan Thompson, 37, of rural Waubun has been charged in Becker County District Court with felony second-degree assault and felony domestic assault
According to court records, on Oct. 18 tribal police officers responded to a domestic assault in rural Becker County. A woman said Thompson had dragged her into a green sedan. He had a small knife and tried to stab her with it -- angry that she was “going back out to Naytahwaush,” according to the criminal complaint. He told officers he acted to stop her from going with another man.
On Oct. 20, District Judge Gretchen Thilmony set cash bail for Thompson at $2,000 or bond at $20,000, with standard conditions of release, or bond at $40,000 without conditions.
Blood draw leads to charges for rural Audubon man
Sawyer Timothy Mahar, 22, of rural Audubon, has been charged in Becker County District Court with felony fifth-degree controlled substance crime and misdemeanor DWI.
According to court records, on May 16 at 12:30 a.m., a deputy saw a vehicle with its lights on parked at the Pit 611 bar after it had closed. The driver was hunched over the wheel with a blue and black pipe in his hands. He admitted smoking marijuana with the pipe.
He failed field sobriety tests and a search warrant was obtained for a blood draw. It was tested at a Bureau of Criminal Apprehension lab, which reported on Sept. 4 that Mahar had THC and a metabolite of cocaine in his blood. A piece of marijuana wax was seized during the search.
On Oct. 14, District Judge Gretchen Thilmony issued a summons for Mahar to appear in court on Dec. 14.
DNA evidence leads to burglary charges against Halstad woman
Rachel Annette Onsgard, 32, of Halstad, Minn., has been charged in Becker County District Court with two counts of felony second-degree burglary.

According to court records, on May 18, 2019, the owner of a house off County Road 129 in Becker County reported a break-in, sometime over the past week while the house was unoccupied. A rifle was stolen.
A black glove was found outside where some paneling had been removed, and the glove was sent to the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension lab for DNA testing. On Oct. 8, it came back as a match for Onsgard.
On April 18, a burglary was reported at a house off County Road 129, which happened in late March or early April. Two pocket watches were stolen. A sweatshirt left behind in the house was tested for DNA, and on Oct. 7 it came back as a match for Onsgard.
On Oct. 14, District Judge Gretchen Thilmony issued a summons for Onsgard to appear in court on Dec. 14.
Woman accused of theft from vulnerable adult
Laura Michelle Smith, 54, of rural Ogema, has been charged in Becker County District Court with felony theft.
According to court records, she is responsible for paying rent to Lake Homes on behalf of a vulnerable adult who lives there, and at the time the criminal complaint was filed, she was past due $2,051. She told an investigator that she is on medication that gives her gambling urges, and she is responsible for not being current with the rent. She said the past due amount was over $4,000, but she has gotten it down to about $2,000.
On Oct. 12, District Judge Gretchen Thilmony issued a summons for Smith to appear in court on Dec. 7.
Felony filed after man finds wallet on floor of bar, uses card
Brian Wayne Crabtree, 34, of rural Bagley, has been charged in Becker County District Court with felony financial transaction card fraud.

According to court records, on Sept. 26, a woman dropped her wallet at the Callaway Liquor Store. Video shows Crabtree finding it and leaving with it. The woman noticed it was missing when she got an alert on her cellphone asking if $602.50 had been fraudulently withdrawn from her account. Crabtree used the card to withdraw $302 in Detroit Lakes, and was captured on surveillance video using an ATM at Mid Minnesota Federal Credit Union in Detroit Lakes, according to the criminal complaint.
On Oct. 12, District Judge Gretchen Thilmony issued a summons for Crabtree to appear in court at a later date.
Ponsford man accused of attacking relative
Jayson Robert Annette, 32, of rural Ponsford has been charged in Becker County District Court with felony domestic assault and gross misdemeanor violating a no-contact order.
According to court records, on Oct. 16 he attacked a female relative while she was sitting in bed, punching her three times in the face. A deputy noted blood on the victim’s face and a cut near her eyebrow. She said she did not know what had prompted the attack.
Annette was found in a back bedroom lying face down and making unintelligible gestures. He was given a medical evaluation and taken to jail. He has five prior domestic assault-related convictions from 2009 to 2019.
On Oct. 19, District Judge Gretchen Thilmony set cash bail for Annette at $1,000 or bond at $20,000, with standard conditions of release, or bond at $40,000 without conditions.
Erhard woman charged with meth possession
Tonya Michel Kadel, 50, of Erhard, has been charged in Becker County District Court with felony fifth-degree controlled substance crime and misdemeanor DWI.
According to court records, on Oct. 19 at 1:07 a.m., a deputy saw a red pickup truck eastbound in Highway 34 near Richwood Road, drive up on the curb.

Kadel was the driver, and performed poorly on field sobriety tests. A creamer container behind the passenger seat was found to contain two baggies with a total of 2.73 grams of meth and a glass pipe. A urine test was given at the Becker County Jail.
On Oct. 20, District Judge Gretchen Thilmony ordered her released without bail, under standard conditions of release.
Perham man accused of punching pickup truck, causing $2,400 in damage
Michael Leroy Horstmann, 68, of rural Perham has been charged in Becker County District Court with felony first-degree criminal damage to property.
According to court records, shortly before 2 p.m. Oct. 1, he punched and dented the hood of a 2017 GMC Sierra pickup truck that was parked in the L&M Fleet parking lot in Detroit Lakes, causing an estimated $2,413 in damage.
A man witnessed a man hitting the hood, and store surveillance video showed a chainsaw work order number in Horstmann’s cart that led police to him.
On Oct. 22, District Judge Gretchen Thilmony issued a summons for Horstmann to appear in court Dec. 14.
