DL man sentenced for check forgery
Kyle Lee Accobee, 29, of Detroit Lakes has been sentenced in Becker County District Court for felony check forgery.
According to court records, on Nov. 10, 2017, he tried to cash a forged check at the drive-through of Bremer Bank in Detroit Lakes. The $800 check from a woman's account was made out to Accobee.
A bank employee contacted the woman about the check and was informed the check had been stolen in a burglary the day before and she had not issued the check to Accobee.
Concerned about the suspicious teller, Accobee left the bank drive-through, leaving behind the check and his identification. He was caught on bank video attempting to cash the check. He told police that two men had approached him in the Detroit Lakes mall and offered to pay him to cash the check in his name.
Accobee appeared in court Nov. 21 before Becker County District Judge Jay Carlson, who sentenced him to a year and a day in prison, stayed five years. He was fined $1,000 plus $1,165 in court fees, and was ordered to serve 45 days in jail. He was placed on supervised probation for five years.
