Tribal hiring preference beefed up at Shooting Star Casino: Gaming commission OKs new policy
The White Earth Reservation gaming commission approved a new hiring policy for Shooting Star Casino at a Dec. 20 meeting, aiming to further align the gaming operation's hiring policy with the tribal government hiring policy.
The new hiring policy was approved in a unanimous vote. The policy states: "Whenever possible, team members of the Shooting Star Casino and other White Earth Reservation entities will be considered for position openings before turning to outside resources. With this policy, we reserve the right to exercise American Indian preference in all points of our hiring preference."
The new policy will be effective immediately at both gaming locations, Shooting Star Casino Mahnomen and Shooting Star Casino Bagley.
The new policy further states: "Native preference will take prevalence in the prescreening and selection of interview candidates, whenever possible. When three or more White Earth enrolled members meet the minimum qualifications for a position, interview selection will be limited to White Earth enrollees only. This will be applicable to the first ten days of the job posting."
Shooting Star is the largest employer on the White Earth Reservation, with nearly 900 employees.
