Woman sentenced for writing bad checks
Britany Marie Kern, 26, of rural Waubun has been sentenced in Becker County District Court for felony issuing dishonoring checks.
According to court records, on Aug. 2, 2018, law enforcement was notified that in late June and early July of 2018, she had written three bad checks to a Detroit Lakes business, for $476, $384 and $604 or a total of $1,465. All three were returned for non-sufficient funds. The name of the business was not disclosed in court records.
She appeared in Becker County District Court May 5 before District Judge Gretchen Thilmony, who stayed imposition of sentence and ordered her to pay a $1,000 fine, $1,090 in court fees and $1,660 in restitution. She was placed on supervised probation for five years.
