Woman sentenced for Alprazolam pills
Jamey Ann Haataja, 33, of Park Rapids has been sentenced in Becker County District Court for felony fifth-degree controlled substance crime.
According to court records, at 12:30 a.m. on July 18, 2018, a Detroit Lakes police officer saw a young person on a bicycle that matched the description of a juvenile runaway. The bicyclist was Haataja, and she was arrested on an active warrant. A clear baggie in her sweatshirt pocket contained pieces of crushed Alprazolam pills, a controlled substance used to treat anxiety and panic disorders that can be addictive.
Haataja appeared in Becker County District Court May 20 before District Judge Jay Carlson, who stayed imposition of sentence and ordered her to serve 60 days in jail, with credit for 60 days served. She was ordered to pay $565 in court fees, get a chemical dependency evaluation, and follow the recommendations, including aftercare.
