A felony charge of violating a restraining order has been dropped in Becker County District Court against Patrick Charles Bonga, 36, of Detroit Lakes.
According to court records, on Feb. 11, he was court-ordered to avoid any contact with a woman, and to stay at least 500 feet away from her residence in Detroit Lakes.
On Feb. 26, Detroit Lakes police were dispatched to her residence. They were told that Bonga had just left, after walking in to get his belongings. Later he became angry and started yelling about past issues, witnesses said. He raised a fist and ran at the woman. She was expecting to get hit, but he stayed back away from her. He held up a phone, said he had a picture, became incoherent, and left on his own.
On May 31, the charge was dismissed by the Becker County Attorney's Office, which stated: "The state will not meet its burden (of proof) based on new information received." Bonga's $200 in cash bail was returned to him.
