Christopher James Gum, 36, of West Fargo, was charged in Becker County District Court with felony fleeing a peace officer in a motor vehicle and misdemeanor reckless driving.
According to court records, about 6:40 p.m. on July 16 a Callaway police officer saw a vehicle on Highway 59 with no front license plate. When he tried to pull it over, Gum allegedly sped away, leading police on a chase at speeds up to 130 mph.
At one point Gum allegedly passed a vehicle on the shoulder going 117 mph.
A trooper set up stop sticks (used to deflate tires) near Ogema and Gum's vehicle hit them at 113 mph and blew a tire a short time later. He kept going on three tires at speeds in excess of 100 mph, eventually going into a ditch and coming to a stop. The chase stretched for 18 miles. Gum was wanted on a North Dakota warrant. He was arrested and taken to jail.
