Michael Anthony Ian Arellano, 34, of Frazee was sentenced in Becker County District Court for felony domestic assault. A second felony domestic assault charge was dropped in a plea agreement.
According to court records, shortly after 10 a.m. July 24 in Frazee, Arellano assaulted his girlfriend of several months, after arguing with her and accusing her of cheating on him.
She told police that he had gotten violent with her in the past, so she picked up her cellphone to call the police, and he grabbed her by the hair, pulling out a chunk of hair, and threw her on a bed.
She screamed at him to let go of her hair and he went into the living room, where another female confronted him and made him leave the residence. The victim told police she had watched him take 20 Seroquel pills, a medication that commonly treats certain mental illnesses, before he left. He was found and arrested at 10:45 a.m., and confirmed that he took the pills, but said the woman came at him and he had to pull her hair to get her off him, and that there was no assault by either of them. He has two prior domestic assault-related convictions, in 2014 and 2016.
On Aug. 22, Arellano appeared before District Judge Jay Carlson, who sentenced him to 26 months in prison at St. Cloud, and ordered him to pay a $50 fine and $140 in court fees.
