Kendra Kay Albers, 20, of Detroit Lakes was charged in Becker County District Court with felony theft.
According to court records, on Aug. 29, 2017, an employee at Casey’s General Store in Lake Park reported that her wallet -- containing $1,100 in cash, a $400 Casey’s gift card, a safety deposit key and various cards and identification -- was missing from her purse at the end of her shift.
She believed Albers had taken the wallet since they had worked the same shift.
On Sept. 14, 2017, the employee told authorities she had confronted Albers about the theft, she had admitted it, and said she spent all the money, but went home and brought back the empty wallet.
On March 8, 2018, Albers admitted to a Lake Park police investigator that she had been in a tight financial spot and had stolen and spent the money, according to court records. She offered to repay it.
On Aug. 28, 2019, the criminal complaint was filed in Becker County District Court and District Judge Sharon Benson issued a summons for Albers to appear in court Sept. 23.
