Ole Kristen Olander, 41, of Detroit Lakes was sentenced in Becker County District Court for felony fifth-degree controlled substance crime.
According to court records, the 2006 Nissan Activa Olander was driving was pulled over April 17 on Highway 34 in Becker County for operating without headlights in bad weather.
While he was talking to the officer, a glass pipe fell out of his lap. He admitted using it for smoking marijuana and consented to a search of the vehicle. Four small plastic bags found in various parts of the car all tested positive for meth. His license had been canceled as inimical to public safety and he was convicted of a fifth-degree drug offense in 2015.
On Sept. 13, Olander appeared before District Judge Gretchen Thilmony, who sentenced him to 18 months in prison at St. Cloud, and ordered him to pay a $50 fine and $215 in court fees.
A misdemeanor and a gross misdemeanor traffic infraction, and a misdemeanor charge of providing a false name to a peace officer, were dropped in a plea agreement.
