Jesus Soto Reyes, 20, of rural Dent has been charged in Becker County District Court with felony third-degree criminal sexual conduct, victim age 13-15, actor 24 months or more older.

According to court records, Reyes started dating a 15-year-old girl on June 19 or 20, after meeting her at the Adult Learning Center in Detroit Lakes, where they were both going to school.

She said he knew she was only 15 years old. He denied any sexual contact and said he thought she was 17 years old. According to court records, lab results from an article of the girl’s clothing tested by the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension came back Nov. 22 as positive for sexual bodily fluids from Reyes.

On Dec. 27, a summons was issued for him to appear in Becker County District Court on Jan. 23.

Detroit Lakes man faces domestic assault charge

Christopher Alan Ruth, 28, of rural Detroit Lakes has been charged in Becker County District Court with felony domestic assault.

According to court records, at 6 a.m. Dec. 29 officers were called to the home he shares with a woman with whom he has a domestic relationship. Ruth was upset because she had spoken to a deputy about an earlier domestic incident. According to court records, he threatened her repeatedly, called her “snitch” and other names, and threatened to break the windows out of a truck.

He was convicted of fifth-degree assault in 2013 and 2014.

Ruth appeared in court Dec. 31 before District Judge Mike Fritz, who set cash bail at $5,000 or bond at $5,000, with standard conditions of release, or bond at $10,000 with no conditions.

Ottertail man accused of meth possession

Dewayne Michael Steward, 32, of rural Ottertail has been charged in Becker County District Court with felony fifth-degree controlled substance crime.

According to court records, on Dec. 28 Detroit Lakes police were called to the Burger King parking lot on the report of a man slumped over the wheel of a parked car. A woman there told police she believed something was wrong with the driver, who turned out to be Steward. He was pulled over by an officer after he drove from there to the McDonald’s parking lot, making several erratic moves along the way.

The officer saw a baggie on the driver’s seat and a small black velvet cloth bag next to the center console. According to court records, it contained a meth pipe, a red straw, and a clear baggie with meth that weighed 2.2 grams.

Steward appeared in court Dec. 30 before District Judge Mike Fritz, who set cash bail at $500 or bond at $7,000, with standard conditions of release, or bond at $15,000 with no conditions.

Fugitive from justice charge filed

Anthony Joseph Vannett, 34, of rural Ogema, has been charged in Becker County District Court with being a fugitive from justice from another state, a felony.

According to court records, on Dec. 27 he was arrested by a Detroit Lakes police officer on a warrant issued in Colfax County, Neb., for felony fraud.

He admitted being the person named in the warrant, and on Dec. 30 he waived his right to an extradition hearing and was ordered held without bail until picked up by Nebraska authorities.

Ponsford woman charged with receiving stolen property

Mary Rose Thompson, 26, of Ponsford, has been charged in Becker County District Court with receiving stolen property.

According to court records, on Dec. 18, the gold-colored Ford Taurus with North Dakota plates that she was driving was pulled over by a deputy on County Road 34. It had been involved in a gas drive-off in Frazee.

The Fargo, N.D., man who owns the vehicle had reported it stolen two days earlier. He said he loaned it to a friend to pick up Thompson, and that Thompson was allowed to drive the vehicle, with the understanding that she had to bring it back to him. But she did not return it and he no longer believed that she intended to, according to the criminal complaint. A Fargo police officer reported the vehicle had been involved in numerous gas drive-offs.

On Dec. 31, Becker County District Judge Mike Fritz issued a summons for Thompson to appear in court on Jan. 30.

Receiving stolen property charge filed

Lawrence Lewis Larson Jr., 40, of White Earth, has been charged in Becker County District Court with receiving stolen property and misdemeanor theft.

According to court records, on Dec. 30 Detroit Lakes police were called to Walmart on the report of a suspected shoplifter who had just left the store in a blue Ford sports utility vehicle. The officer learned the vehicle had been reported stolen in Fargo, N.D., and found it unoccupied in the Menards parking lot.

Larson was found inside Menards, and told the officer he had walked there from Walmart. He had car keys in his pocket, and admitted having taken a few items without paying for them. Deodorant, body wash, a box of candy and two electronic items were found in the car or on his person, totaling about $31.

Fargo police provided a photo of the man who had stolen the Ford SUV from a parking lot in Fargo, and the photo matched Larson, according to the criminal complaint.

DL man accused of being fugitive from justice

Dalla Scott Viker, 39, of Detroit Lakes, has been charged in Becker County District Court with being a fugitive from justice from another state, a felony.

According to court records, on Dec. 31 he was arrested by a Detroit Lakes police officer on a warrant issued in Morton County, N.D., for felony possession of a controlled substance and misdemeanor possession of paraphernalia.

He admitted being the person named in the warrant, and on Jan. 1 he waived his right to an extradition hearing and was ordered held without bail until picked up by North Dakota authorities.
